Deployment Manager 8.5 System Builder Edition Components
Deployment Manager 8.5 consists of the following major components which should be installed before deployment:
Additionally, standard package is equipped by the tools that also can be installed or used without installation (run from CD).
Deployment Console is a central control point of Deployment Manager, where all decisions about deployment are made. Deployment Console is a workplace of administrator where he adjusts all necessary settings such as creating deployment schemes, controlling the processes and reviewing operation reports. Deployment Console can be installed together with Infrastructure Server or at separate location.
Through Deployment Console administrator can get access to the Image Storage - the network folder with stored prototype images and create Session Templates based on these images. Session Template is a routine that contains a predefined list of deployment procedures which should be made on each target PC. These routines contain prototype images which should be deployed onto target PCs, post-deployment scripts that help to configure each target PC individually and some other control settings which help to optimize deployment for multiple machines.
Sessions are used in Deployment Manager in order to allow simultaneous deployment of different system configurations. Target PCs can be split into several groups and each group can be connected to the dedicated session. All sessions can run independently in the network, which provides the ability of independent deployment of different system configuration.
Infrastructure Server is an element of Deployment Manager architecture which is responsible for the transporting of the system image parts to the target PCs. Infrastructure server is connected to the Image storage and provides all networking job of the configuration. When deployment session begins, it sends the parts of the system image to the target PCs connected to the particular session. When necessary, it uses Multicast or Unicast technologies in order to provide optimal network load balance.
PXE Server is a Deployment Manager component which provides the ability to initially boot the remote target machines in case if they do not contain any system or boot environment. Target machines are booted through 'Boot from LAN' option. After boot they automatically locate PXE Server which transfer to them simple environment which is sufficient to connect to deployment session.
Paragon Deployment Manager uses Hard Disk Manager as a tool that creates the prototype system images. Hard Disk Manager is used to create exact image of the system volume (or other volumes) of the prototype system. It takes a sector-by-sector snapshot which allows recreating prototype system. Hard Disk Manager can run without installation which helps to take clean system image without unnecessary software or temporary files on it. Images, which are made by Hard Disk Manager, are exact, compact and browsable. Hard Disk Manager is also distributed as a separate product.
Boot Media Builder is used to create bootable CD/DVDs that with simple bootable environment helps target PCs to connect to deployment session if they do not support 'boot from LAN' option. Boot Media Builder can also create bootable CD/DVDs which contain system image to deploy. In this case user can deploy system to the target machine through stand-alone scenario. Target PC is not necessary connected to network; the machine is booted and deployed directly from CD/DVD. Bootable CD/DVD can be prepared to deploy system even without human interaction.
